Adapteva started a kickstarter project back in September 27th of 2012 through October 27th of 2012. Their project involved the creation of a large-scale Parallella cluster system. The system is made up of 42 Parallella boards (756 CPUs total). These Parallella boards use a total power consumption of under 500 watts. With this power consumption, this cluster is one of the densest clusters in the world.1 This project reached it's funding goal of $750,000 with a total funding of $898,921. This funding goal was reached with 4,965 backers. Now with the Parallella cluster complete, Adapteva has received validation to finally ship their gen-0 Parallella boards to their backers. Adapteva states that it has been a long time since they shipped bulky Parallella proto-types. On July 22, 2013, Adapteva sent their first shipment of a gen-0 Parallella board to a kickstarter backer. Early access backers will receive 40 more gen-0 Parallella boards, as well as other backers who helped contribute to the Adapteva kickstarter project last month. On July 23, 2013, Adapteva announced that people can now pre-order the 16-core Parallella board online at shop.adapteva.com.2 Adapteva also stated that they are able to keep the Parallella entry point at $99 (for the zynq-7010 version) without losing money.3 Once the Kickstarter backers orders have been shipped the pre-orders will be taken care of. So make sure to check the kickstarter project website for more information on the Parallella. |
