Fresh off the heels of San Diego Comic-Con and the tremendous news of Batman in the Man of Steel sequel, WB has made another major announcement in The Flash being in CW’s hit TV series, Arrow. The Flash will be none other than Barry Allen, who will be a recurring character in Arrow’s second season. At the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour, CW president Mark Pedowitz confirmed The Flash is being developed and will first be introduced on Arrow. Pedowitz said, “We plan to introduce a recurring character [on Arrow] and an origin story for Dr. Barry Allen, who you know as The Flash." Pedowitz added, "We’ll see how it goes. Hopefully it will go well. We do want to expand upon the DC universe. We think that there are rich characters that we can use and we thought this was a very organic way to get there.” The intended plan for The Flash is to introduce him in Arrow where he will have his origin story, then to create a spinoff for the same character. The spinoff project is reportedly being worked on by Arrow’s Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg and being directed by David Nutter, whose many pilots include those of DC’s Smallville and Arrow. This will be the first time that superpowers will be introduced in Arrow, as season one was fairly grounded in reality. It would be interesting to see how they pull this off on a TV budget, as rumors flying around were that The Flash would be getting his own movie in 2016. It would also be interesting if this series, now introducing a member of the Justice League of America, if this would tie in to DC’s Cinematic Universe. To this theory, Pedowitz said, "We haven't had those discussions yet. That probably could happen, but they may exist in separate universes. We don't know yet." Arrow seems like a packed show now with the origins of Flash, Black Canary and possibly Red Arrow coming to the show. Season two of Arrow begins this fall on October 9, 2013.
