Have you ever wished that you could play a game with your favorite Disney characters? Well you have that opportunity with Disney Infinity. You could play as characters from Pirates of the Caribbean, The Incredibles and Monsters University. Characters from Toy Story and Cars are also available to play with. Similar to the starter kicks in Skylanders, each starter kick for the various systems comes with the video game, an Infinity base to put your figures on, three characters figures, three Infinity play-sets, one Infinity power disc, and a Web code that can be redeemed for online and mobile content. The first three characters you receive are Mr. Incredible, Jack Sparrow, and Sulley. You can use these characters in three play-sets: Monsters University, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Incredibles. There are two units to this game: play-sets and Disney Infinity Toybox. The play-sets are standalone sets that you can use the figures on; once you place the figure and the play-set on the Infinity base, you can play with the characters that correspond with the play-set, such as Jack Sparrow and the Pirates of the Caribbean play-set. As you play through the play-sets, you can unlock vehicles, items, and gadgets that you take into the Disney Infinity Toybox. The Disney Infinity Toybox is a fantastic way for a gamer to express their imagination. To play with the Disney Infinity Toybox you simple take the play-set off the Infinity base. You could create your own worlds and adventures by combing different Disney characters and environments. You could also combine gadgets and vehicles in toy box mode. Disney Infinity Toybox is available in online mode for Xbox 360 and PS3, but not for 3DS and Wii. Once you finish your Disney Infinity Toybox, you could upload it to the web for other players to see. As of right now, the consoles and 3DS is the main way to play the game; coming in October 2013 players will be able to play the Disney Infinity Toy Box on the PC, and coming soon players can play with the Disney Infinity Toy Box on the Ipad. All the elements in Disney Infinity work really well together, like using characters from Disney movies, creating your own world with the Disney Infinity Toybox, and then destroying the world and starting over again. Also, with the variety of worlds you could create, you will always have fun playing this game. The figures themselves are crafted beautifully, and they truly succeed in unifying all the diverse characters in the game. As you play the game and use the selected figure on the Infinity base, the figure truly comes to life in the game, and this makes you feel as if you are playing with real characters instead of a toy figure. The voice acting gives more realism to the toy figures as well. The game would have been better though if Disney would have used characters from their history instead of using recent characters; Micky himself only makes a small appearance in the game. The play-sets truly represent heir setting as well, such as the Pirates of the Caribbean play-set. The Pirates of the Caribbean play-set puts in ship battles and sword fights. The Incredibles play-set puts you in a superhero world, but the world itself is not that glamorous, and not really worth exploring. The Monsters University play-set is set in a college setting, where you play pranks with the rival university in dark places; this play-set is the most fun to play in. All of the play-sets offer a variety of gameplay options, such as sword fighting, puzzle solving, racing, and shooting. Some of the gameplay doesn't make that much sense to do, such as making monsters or drop-kicking penguins, but it's still fun. Even with the extra play-sets that will available after launch, the first three play-sets offer about three to four hours of mission based gameplay, and after you finish the missions plenty of side quest and activities are available to do. The only really annoying and somewhat disappointing feature is not being able to play local coop using a play-set without buying a figure for that play-set; but there are enough collectibles in the game that can used with the Disney Infinity Toybox. When you play with the Disney Infinity Toybox, you feel like you are playing Mine craft or LittleBigPlanet. Sometimes when you try to put pieces together, you will find that they won't snap in place, or they won't fit right. It's mostly trial and error when designing your own world. Switches, doors, and fireworks are easier to do with simple and clean tutorials. Disney Infinity does a fantastic job of taking plastic figures and changing them into fully colorful characters that you can use to play in uniquely designed worlds based on the Disney characters, and then once you've had your fun with those worlds, go ahead and take all your collectibles and build your own worlds that you can upload online to share with the world. Disney Infinity awaits you; so grab your favorite Disney figure and have some fun! |
