Update: The Family Guy panelists included executive producers and showrunners Steve Callaghan and Rich Appel and voice actors Danny Smith, Mike Henry, Patrick Warburton, Seth Green, and Alex Borstein. Callaghan dropped big news as soon as the panel began. “One special episode we have for the fall - we're going to kill off one of the Griffin family and replace them with a different character.” He cautioned it could be any one of the six members of the main cast. Other than death, there will be crossovers and plenty of reunions. The Cleveland Show family will come back in town, and Cleveland and Peter will rekindle their relationship. Callaghan said their big thematic episode this year will be about Grimm's fairy tales. “From time to time we like to do an episode where we take our characters and put them in familiar works of art. It's kind of theft but we pretend it's an homage.” You'll see a crossover with The Simpsons in the next season premiere (not this year, but fall 2014) and Rich Appel stated it may be an hour long episode. He added, “There may or may not be a five minute chicken fight between Peter and Homer. It's a possibility.” They've got a ton of guest stars for next season. The line up includes Adam Levine, Bryan Cranston, Tony Sirico, Jeff Daniels, Liam Neeson, Conan O'Brien, and Ashton Kutcher. A reel of clips for Family Guy's next season showcased some clever jokes and some familiar topics. Boobs, sex, and abortion – its all fodder for funny. The best one showed Peter and Quagmire as a folk-singing duo with a song asking life's ultimate question: have you ever put butter on a Pop-Tart? Priceless. The annual question about a movie came up, and Callaghan said they're still thinking about it. “There is an idea, and we'd like to do at some point... It will happen but we don't know when.” Stay tuned. American Dad's panel brought Callaghan back to the stage as well as Mike Barker, Jordan Blum, Wendy Schaal, Rachael MacFarlane, Scott Grimes, and Dee Bradley Baker. One of their episodes next season titled The Legend of Zelda Rubenstein sounds particularly funny. It features the family being haunted by the ghost of Francine's unsatisfied sexual drive. The world polter-gasm is used. They'll also have an episode that's shot like an indie film. Snot's father dies and the guys end up going on a road trip. They'll score it with indie music, and it guest stars Zooey Deschanel. Other guest stars for the season include Alison Brie, Stanley Tucci, Olivia Wilde, Mariah Carey, Alan Thicke, and Mae Whitman. Mike Barker did drop some potential news about the American Dad movie. An audience asked whether we would ever see Roger's home planet, and Barker said, “That may be our movie.” It will be about finally getting to his planet. When prodded about the script, Barker said, “I have it [the story], no script yet but I know what it's going to be.” |
