IGN recently posted an article discussing the increased negativity in the comment sections of the website. They have come forward to announce the recruitment of several new moderators, a revision of their community guidelines, and a call for support within the gaming community to be kinder to one another. This is probably the first time I have ever visited a site (gaming or not) that actually took the time out to not only address this old and growing issue, but to also take action and be the example. By revamping the guidelines which will go into effect immediately and making it a point to shed light on how downright nasty we treat eachother via the internet, the Editor-in-Chief of IGN has made it clear that not only is this issue important to him, but it is also something that should be important to all of us. Gaming is supposed to be fun and is about bringing people together. There shouldn't be judgement passed on whether a player is skilled or not. That is only a fraction of the way people treat eachother online whether it has to do with gaming or not. Point blank, we commend IGN for caring about the situation and trying to lead by example. So for all you trolls out there, don't try to be a jerk in IGN's comments, forums, etc. because you will most likely be banned; as it should be.
