Keiji Infaune is best known for his work with Megan Man and other amazing games. Keiji first started his career in 1978 with the original Megan Man; he then was involved in more then thirty Megan Man titles. With all his involvement in video games, he is one of the most experienced game creators in the gaming industry. At one point he was head of Capcom, where he assisted in the creation of games like Onimusha and Dead Rising. Now Keiji is the CEO and President of his own game company, Comcept. They are now trying to fund a new project called Mighty No. 9. Keiji acts as the face of the game, as well as making all the final decisions, including budget, gameplay, and character designs. The funding period runs from August 31, 2013 through October 1, 2013 8:19 pm EDT; the project itself will be fully funded if $900,000 is pledged by the end period date. Here is a basic breakdown of what you would get based on what you pledge to the project; if you pledge $5 or more, you can get your own mighty number, as well as access to the Might No. 9 forum. Your name will be featured in the backer credits, and you will be invited to backer-only events. Pledging $20 or more will get you a digital copy of the game; a code will be sent you your email. A pledge of $40 or more includes a digital retro style game manual (available in either English or Japanese), a digital art book and strategy guide (also available in English or Japanese). You could also enjoy a digital soundtrack. If you pledge $60 or more, you will receive a physical game box (Western-or Japanese style) with a printed retro-style game manual (English or Japanese). Also there will be an in-game golden hero available to play as.
With a pledge of $99 or more, a T-shirt will be shipped to your residence (Western-or Japanese style). You will have access to a in-game transformation for the game's hero. Also with these pledge comes early access to the game via Steam. A printed version of the art book/strategy guide (English or Japanese) will be delivered to people who pledge $120 or more. For a pledge of $175 or more, a plush toy of one of the mascot characters will be shipped, as well as a Territory T-shirt and a T-shirt with a Western design taste to it. A $250 pledge will get you a signed hardcover version of the art/strategy guide book, signed by Infaune himself. A poster of all the bosses in the game will also be available, as well as another physical game box and game manual. If you want to help the design team create a challenge for the internal game-achievement system, which everyone can then try to accomplish in the final version of the game, go ahead and make a pledge of $500. This pledge will also get you a sketch done by Infaune, which will be signed after. A person that pledges $1,000 or more will have their voice featured in the ending theme of the game. Your face will be featured in the game if you make a pledge of $2,500 or more. If you have skills designing enemies for games, make a pledge of $5,000 or more, and you could video conference with the designers to design an enemy based on your design. A beautiful framed piece of one of the original bosses as well as a printed 3D Model of that boss will be delivered to people who pledge $9,999 or more. A T-shirt featuring one of the Mighty Numbers will be delivered as well. If you are a big fan of Keiji Infaune and want to meet and have dinner with him, you can pledge $10,000 or more. Mighty No.9 is a Japanese style side scrolling game that takes elements of the 8 and 16-bit classics, and reinvents them with modern techniques and new mechanics. The main characters in the game is Beck, and he is the only robot who hasn't been infected by a computer virus that causes mechanized creatures in the world to spiral out of control. There are a total of six stages you can run, jump, blast, and transform though as you use weapons and stolen abilities to take down your enemy robots and stop the evil that is trying to destroy your world. The game is currently being developed for the PC, with gamepad support, and will be released through Steam and DRM methods. Other platforms are being considered, but depends solely on the company's budget. If the company does reach their target goal, then the game will be developed for consoles, as well as MAC and Linux, and people who funded this project will have their choice of which platform they want the game on. An estimated date for the completion is set for Spring 2015.
The one design aspect of this game that makes it so unique is Beck's ability to transform. As Beck defeats each of the Mighty Number bosses, he will earn new weapons that he can mold with his body to form new shapes. This new transformations will give Beck new moves and abilities, such as the ability to walk up walls or rip away enemy shields. If one of the bosses has extendable hands, Beck could mold that to his body, allowing him to reach switches that are far away. He could also use this hands as hooks, and swing along gaps. Another weapon he could mold to his body is a tank, allowing him to crush spikes and move objects around the level. All of these ideas are still in the design phase, and are still being flushed out. Another design aspect is the ability to expose one of the three types of “xel” (Cell) by taking out an enemy with a certain weapon, or by hitting an enemy in a weal spot. If you are quick enough, you could take this power and use it later on in the game as a double-jump or speed boost. You could use the power as a flurry of punches too, or set off a charge that hurts everything around you. Whatever form these powers take, it will add depth and strategy to the action, as you decide how to approach your enemies, and use these powers to defeat them.
There was a time when you and your fellow Mighty No. robots worked together in peace and harmony, but times have changed; your fellow robots are now taking over locations around the world and destroying these locations with their minions. It's now up to you to stop these robots from taking over the world. This task won't be done so easily; the Mighty No. robots are now fierce warriors instead of industrial workers, and this transformation happened in the Battle Colosseo in robot on robot battles. This is as far the design team will reveal, but make sure to check the website for more information. Also study the designs the design team has on the website, and it will you help learn some tactics and weaknesses of your enemies. Now that you know what the game is about and the project, this where you the backer come in. If you decide to back up this project with you pledge, you will become a member of the Mighty community, and you have several ways to put your input in the game. One way is by surveys. These surveys will give you the opportunity to help judge the company's priorities for this game, including difficultly balance, length vs playability, and what you would like to see from past games. Another way is by participating in polls. For this polls, the design team will come up with several designs, and you will decide which one you like. For instance the design team plans to make you choose the look of Beck's partner, Call, as the first poll.
As production goes on, the design team will hold a contest in which you will design an enemy for the game, and then try to sell that design to the design team and community. For the higher pledges, more involved interactions and beta access is possible. The one thing people can count on is that the design team will defiantly listen to all your ideas and look at your designs, so be sure to voice your opinions, and they will be heard. Comcept has also announced that they will work with Humble Digital and Fangamer for distribution of rewards and psychical items. So after reading about this project, it would be great if you could pledge some money to help this project come to life. This project can only succeed if it has the support of the community. By putting this project on Kickstarter, Comcept wants to involve the fans in the design process of this game, and bring these fans together to design a truly unique and satisfying game. So take a look at the website, and go ahead and make a pledge to bring Mighty No.9 to life.
