We know the Xbox One has some ground to cover, especially with some of the promises made to their customers broken, but was this "improvement" really necessary? It was announced, shortly after the release date of the Xbox One, that the consoles CPU speed was boosted by 10%. This clocks in the Xbox One from a speed of 1.6GHz to 1.75 GHz. Now this may seem like a huge improvement to some people, but for the hardcore gamers really looking into this might just be Microsoft's attempt to try and catch the PS4. The Xbox One and PS4 both have an AMD Jaguar-based CPU and a Southern Islands-based GPU. The fact is that these AMD cores normally clock in at 2GHz, which means that the Xbox One's CPU is under clocked. We can assume that this is to reduce noise, heat, power consumption, or they could know something we don't. Either way it is suspected that even with this lower power that the difference between the systems won't be noticed except in any exclusive titles that will program the game to the console's specifics. This in the end is a nice gesture by Microsoft, but surely others will revel in the fact that their PS4 is still faster. |
